US vs Spain Soccer Semi-Final Result

Stunned scenes in South Africa as the US Soccer team dump Spain out of the Confederation Cup! What makes this victory so incredible is the fact that Spain are no ordinary side, not only are they the reigning european champions but also the number one ranked team in the world with an impressive string of results over the past 3 years.

In fact Spain's record was somewhat astonnishing, unbeaten for 35 games dating back to 2006 - 15 straight wins, 25 wins in a row if you count penalty shoot-outs! But all that has gone now.....AND HOW!

The shock of this result will reverberate around the globe as the US soccer team were not expected to have a hope in hell of beating the superstar Spain team. With players who ply their trade in the most glamourous and competitive leagues on the planet in Spain, England and Italy. Yet Coach Bradley's team had not read the script.

Right from the first whistle they were snapping at the spainards not giving them a chance to settle, making crunching takles and denying them space. Then in the 27th minute after some slick work from Clint Dempsey striker Jozy Altidore (who ironically plays his soccer in Spain) out muscled his defender and unleashed an unstoppable shot passed the helpless Spainish goalkeeper.

In the 74th minute Clint Dempsey who plays for Fulham FC. in the English Premier League scored what turned out to be the winner and put the US through to an historic Confederation Cup Final.

What makes this result or the more remarkable is the fact that 3 days ago the US team were on the verge of elimination from the competition needing a 6 goal swing in their final group game. Amazingly they deafeated Egypt 3-0 and Brazil beat their nearest rival Italy 3-0 as well, plus in all three of their games the US have had a man sent off, against Spain it was the coaches son Micheal Bradley.
